Medical Exam and TB positive

Hi All

My PD is getting current now and will be filling my case for consular processing in India. I just went through a skin test and x-ray which got positive. The chest X-ray has got some old marks from some infections during my childhood. Will this be an issue when I go for medical check-up prescribed by the USCIS and if there is anything this I can do to address this over actual medical test?

Pls advise as I have been waiting for my PD to be current for past 4 years and am nervous.

thank you

Sanju

As far as I know being tested positive for TB will be a great issue. There are other molecular diagnostic tests like PCR for TB to rule out any ambiguity with skin tests and chest X-rays. You need to talk to an attorney.

Thanks Jairichi.  Just a clarification here.  Its not positive but its a scar from some 20 years back. I consulted few doctors and they confirmed its the old scar. But not sure how it will be interpreted during the medical exam. Also I think if they recommend sputum test, the report will take at least 8 weeks by which the date may retrogress.  Pls advise.

Another query is I have an H1-B filed by my current organization. Will GC consular have any impact on my H1-B? If I don't get the consular interview cleared before PD retrogress, can I still travel with my H1-B approved(expecting approval within another week or so)? Appreciate your response on this.

I would suggest you to get reports from a couple of specialist doctors to that effect and carry it with you just in case you are questioned about it. I know sputum tests take 6 to 8 weeks but as I mentioned earlier they have other confirmatory diagnostic tests like PCR for TB which are rapid and are indeed reliable. I do not know how far they accept this test in lieu of X-ray and sputum test.

And, I do not know the answer for your 2nd question.

Hi All

Need your help on this. I got my interview date in Nov and went for medical last week. My fear came true where the old scar on my chest prompted for sputum smears and culture by taking 3 days sample- 3 days AFB(Sputum) is negative but culture result will come after 60 days. The doctor handed me a generic note from US Consulate that whoever is recommended for the additional tests shouldnt come to the interview unless the final medical reports are received. Also it mentioned that they will contact the candidate for rescheduling the interview once they receive the final medical report. I have the following queries as below.

1) I haven't got any official confirmation from Consulate about the interview date cancellation. How should i proceed? I have sent a note to support-india@ustraveldocs.com today and awaiting the response

2) If my interview date of Nov stands cancel in this case, will they still give me another date once they receive the final clear medical report? Given that, my PD of Nov 2008 is already retrogressed

3) under what category, the doctor will define the class for TB- old scars with negative sputum and negative culture? and what will be the impact on GC

Appreciate your prompt response and guidance in this regard.

As the dates are not retrogressed effective 1st Nov and you are asked to wait until medical test results are knows, your interview will mostly be cancelled and would be rescheduled next year when dates move past your PD.

As for your +ve test on TB, once you get the results and still +ve, you could always start the TB treatment (there is a course for 6 or 9 months you need to complete). When you are undergoing that course, doc can mention the same to USCIS and it will then be up to USCIS to consider it favorably.

I think you should be able to travel on approved H-1b.

Thanks 'itsmeusa'. Though i dont have any symptoms, but still wait for the culture result to come after 60 days. Btw, my smears for 3 samples are already negative. What will happen when they re-schedule my interview once PD is current (presuming my final report coming negative this time)? Will i have to go thru medical againa coz again my old scar may trigger this whole process again?
