I94 Validity date , Missed to show new I-797

Hi Team, 

     I have changed my petetion to a new company in Sept 2013 and in March 2014 traveled out to a country and  at the port of entry forgot to show new I797 .

And now my Current I94 date is till my first company visa date ie, Upto Oct 2014.

And my new petetion is valid up to 2016 .

 

When i went to CBP office to change my validtiy they are asking me to go to Port of entry to  Nogales, AZ 85621 to get the validity change.

 

I am planning to go out from the USA in May 2014  and will return in May 2014.

 

Can you please suggest me do i need to go to the port of entry for my I94 validity date change before i travel to INDIA in the month of May 2014 or can this be done on my return from INDIA in May 2014.
