New I94 from Canada on L1-B

Hi,

 

I am on L1-B and visa and I94 expiring on May 2014. My employer is also filing the H1B but it will be applicable from oct 1. 

As per rule, we can stay 5 years on L1B but i have completed 3 years and now a days there are so many rejections on L1-B.

could anyone share or suggest what i should to do to get a new I94 so that i can get 4 months of extension. Should i go to canada by air or Niagra border where i get new I94. I have the paper I94 which i received in July 2011. 

 

Can i assume that if airline take my I-94 then after returning back officer wll give me new I94. there are lot of things going on related to AVR which is confusing whether I should go to Canada or not. Please help.
