Priya719
I am currently on H1-B visa, and lost my Social security card in US, Contacted SSN office and have been told that I will receive only the replacement card. What are the consequences specially being on H1? Is there any possibility of criminal stuff by doing identity theft? Link to comment
JoeF
No consequence. And next time, guard the social security card better. Guard it like your most prized possession. Put it in a safe. If some criminal gets a hold of your SSN, you could become a victim of identity theft. The SSN is the key to pretty much everything in the US. Start by putting a credit freeze with the credit reporting companies. That way, nobody can apply for a credit card with your name and SSN, for example. And in case you are wondering, yes, I have put a freeze with the credit reporting companies. While I haven't been a victim of identity theft, I have met people who were, and it is a nightmare to deal with that. Link to comment
Priya719
Thanks for the info, I did put credit monitoring on my account through Equifax and Federal Credit monitoring. Can you suggest what else I have to do in terms of being safe. Link to comment
