OPT STEM Extension Denial and H1-B selected in lottery

Jan 2017: applied opt stem extension with incorrect E-Verify number

Feb 4^th, 2017: 12 month OPT end date.

March 20^th, 2017: RFE on OPT STEM EXTENSION to correct and submit the E-Verify number by June 15^th 2017. Company was not e-verified and was considering getting E-verified.

April 11^th, 2017: applied H1 and got selected in the lottery

June 15^th, 2017: Company decided not to get E-verified due to its complexity and so was not able to respond to the OPT STEM EXTENSION RFE

June 16^th, 2017: Applied to my School for cap gap extension with H1B receipt and got new CAP GAP i20, that extends up to Sept 30^th2017. School mentioned that I can legally stay in the country but cannot work till Oct 1^st,  2017.

1.      What is my visa status now? Expired or Legal/Can’t work or Legal/Can work

2.      Has the 60 day grace period already started

3.      Should I go back to my country and reenter with H1-B stamping by Oct 2017?

4.      Can I respond to the RFE now with a different e-verified employer? Will this impact my current H1b process?  

I highly appreciate any suggestions or thoughts for my scenario
