Bessie Gollamudi
Hi my OPT ends on june 15th 2017 and my is still processing my I20. My school says that there is a grace period to apply even after the my OPT end period but they say I cannot work during that period until I get my ead. I just want to have more information about this and I am desperate Thank you, Regards, Vimala Devi Gollamudi Link to comment
prad0211
There is no grace period to apply STEM extension after your initial OPT expires. Your extension package should reach USCIS before your OPT expires. Link to comment
immigrationproblem
Your best bet is to mail in your OPT STEM extension package to USCIS without the latest I-20 before June 15th. USCIS will probably send you RFE for your new I-20 but that would "extend" your legal status to stay in the US while your STEM Extension application is pending. And yes, your school is right. You are not legal to work after June 15th until your new STEM-OPT is approved with new EAD on hand. Link to comment

If the extension packet reaches USCIS before the current OPT ends, one can work till the case is adjudicated or for 90(?) days, whichever is earlier. Link to comment

immigrationproblem
Yes. If your packet reached USCIS before 6/15, you can legally work until your case is adjudicated. Link to comment
