Visit US on B1/B2 visa while awaiting CP

My I-140 was approved a few weeks ago under EB1A category. We live outside the US and are awaiting consular processing to begin. Based on the current information it seems that consular processing can take anywhere from 6 months to 12 months. In the meantime, I will like to travel to the US in June for an important meeting on my B1/B2 visa that is valid until May 2020. Is this visit technically possible? What are the practical implications?

You should be able to visit as long as you answer specific questions if asked truthfully.

It would help if one knew the nature of the meeting.

To attend a global research conference (registration and other official documentation available). The trip is sponsored by my current organization.

I suspect you will not have any trouble. Stick to the conference as the reason for your visit and make sure you do have return tickets.
