F2 to H4 visa processing time

Hi,

I am on F2 visa and my husband’s H1 got picked up this year. I am applying for my change of status to H4(F2 to H4) by end of this month. I have couple of questions,

1. How long does it take for the H4 visa conversion to happen?

2. I have got an admission from a university in california for my graduate studies and I am planning to convert to F1 visa status once my H4 kicks in. Is it Okay to do F1 conversion as soon as I get my H4 status.
