yrkgc
Hi, My GC is going to expire on July 7th 2017. I have applied for my Citizenship and completed my biometrics on March 6th 2017 and waiting for next step in the process (Interview step). Here are my questions and I highly appreciate if some one can answer these. 1) Do I need to renew my GC while my Citizenship is in the process ? 2) Is renewed GC required at work place to maintain legal status ? 3) If have to renew, do I need to appear again for biometrics or I can skip it since I already have biometrics done during citizenship process ? 4) Can I have I-551 stamp instead of GC renewal ? Thanks Link to comment
JoeF
The status as LPR doesn't expire, but a valid GC is required, as per the law: https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-green-card-granted :" If you are a permanent resident age 18 or older, you are required to have a valid Green Card in your possession at all times." An I-551 stamp has the same legal power as the actual GC. Link to comment
Shurap1
1) Yes 2) Yes absolutely 3) Follow the standard processes required for GC renewal 4) Needs to have a GC approval to receive this stamp Considering your filing date, it can take 6 to 8 months to get actual interview date so I would get GC renewed.
