I-94 Expiry but Visa is valid

Hi, Can someone help me of my query.

I have valid Visa still Dec 2017 but my I-94 is getting expired on Aug 2017. they gave me I-94 till Aug because my passport also getting expiring on Aug 2017. Now how can i extend the i-94 till Dec 2017. Is there any issue if i travel to Mexico and come back.

Do you have any better suggestion how  to extend the i-94 instead of existing and entering.

Either that or finding out whether the employer will file another H1 petition for you. Please tell me you did inform the employer about the facts>
