USA Visitor Visa for parents. Sponsor's Birth certificate Mandatory? What if BC not available?

Hello,

Sponsoring my parents for a visitor visa to the USA. I am reading that sponsor's original birth certificate is mandatory.?

Some websites suggest the sponsor's birth certificate is NOT needed and some suggest it IS mandatory.

I do not have one. What are my options? my country of citizenship is India.
