H-1B Transfer processing times

Hello:

I am working with a potential employer and here's the situation.

They want to apply for the H-1B transfer and want me to start working for them as soon as they receive the transfer receipt. Yes, legally I can... but since premium processing is no longer in place, what if my application takes longer than the stipulated time (6 or 8 months)? I am guessing I will be out of status and should leave the country immediately.

I glanced the processing times in the uscis website  https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do , they don't look good either.

Any advice is appreciated.

Premium processing suspension is temporarily for up to 6 months. This suspension will improve normal processing time. Another option is to upgrade to PP after 6 months.

I agree that I can upgrade it to PP... only if the 'ban' on PP doesn't get extended further. But my question remains unanswered, what if my application doesn't get approved before the end of the stipulated time (6 or 8 months), will I become out of status?

I am in a similar situation where I have a few job offers who all want me to join upon receiving the transfer acknowledgement from USCIS. Is it wise to change jobs on the receipt notice under the current circumstances with H1-B reforms being planned?
