Applying amendment extension after I94 expiry

Hi,

My initial H1B granted till 8/27/2017, when I entered US I94 was given till 8/27/2017. When I got a new job at new client my employer filed for amendment and when we got I797 the adjusted I94 was till 7/7/2016. My employer forgot to apply the extension and we realized that only on 12/30/2016, so I was advised to leave the country immediately which I did(before 180 days). Now my employer/attorney is filing extension for amendment. 

Please help me in below questions:

1. Is it allowed to apply for extension after I94 expiration?

2. What are chances of extension approval?

2. If extension is approved, since I am in India do i need to go for stamping and if I go what are chances approval and what issues I may face.
