Travel before EAD/AP renewal

Me and my spouse have EAD/AP combo cards till March 2017. We are getting ready to send our renewals in by the end of November 2016. My spouse has to travel for work and this trip might coincide while the renewal is being sent in.

Is it okay for me to send in the renewal packages in for myself and on behalf of my spouse? Or does the applicant have to be physically present in the country while the EAD/AP renewal is mailed out?

Basically, i plan on sending this out Nov 25, 2016 and my spouse needs to travel out of the country on Nov 23, 2016. She will be back in a couple weeks and plans to use her current AP to re-enter in December.

Is it okay if we apply on Nov 25 and she leaves the same day? Given the delays with EAD/AP renewals, I did not want to let 2 weeks go as is.
