O1 visa stamp - after the interview

I'd like to make an inquiry about the O1 visa process. I received my approval for a 3-year O1 visa from USCIS about a six weeks ago and returned to Dubai (where I was born) to get the visa stamped on my passport. The interviewer asked me several questions which I answered fully and showed him all the documents needed to show my eligibility for the visa. He told me to wait a few days to pick my passport up and when I did, I saw that the expiration date was set for Oct 2017 instead of 2019 like petitioned and approved for in my application. I wrote to my lawyer for advice but would appreciate any input anyone might have on this situation.
