JoeF
Are you a US citizen or Permanent Resident? The file gets sent to the National Visa Center, and after the fees are paid (and the PD is current, if you are an LPR; there is no quota for spouses of US citizens), it goes to the consulate. The consulate will then invite the person for an interview, and the person gets an Immigrant Visa which is used to enter the US as Permanent Resident. Link to comment
chandrach
I am permanent resident and F2A India category. Shall I file I485 now or wait until it goes to consulate. How can I pay the fee to the USCIS? will they send an instructions in mail? or any other way to pay. Please advise. Link to comment
JoeF
An I-485 is only possible if the person is in the US in some other status. Consular Processing replaces the I-485 for people who are abroad. Link to comment
