JoeF
Check your insurance policy. Some cover up to 100 miles or so into Mexico. You can also buy insurance near the border. Rental car companies usually don't allow driving to Mexico. Link to comment
rohit369
We did this visa trip twice (last year & this year). I wont suggest you to drive to Mexico unless you have elaborate plans to drive further from Tijuana. I recommend you to just park your car in the long term parking at the border (US side). They charge around $7/day and this is the safest option. You can just walk from the parking lot to the border and enter Mexico. There are many options to go around Tijuana. You will find yellow cabs right at the border to go to your hotel. Uber is pretty good in Tijuana. Mostly your ATT phone works since its a border town and you can use the data on your phone to book Uber. Bottomline, wherever you go in Tijuana it shouldn't cost you more than $5-7 by taxi.
