H4 to F1 conversion

Hi..

I am currently on H4 visa and my husband is on H1 B.I would be joining school this fall 2016 to do my Masters.I would like to know the best way to change to F 1 visa as my program requires me to do an internship and a practicum.

 

1. Doing a change of status from H4 to F1 in US itself and the time frame.

 

2.Going back to India( my home country) and get my F1 stamping.

 

3.Going to Canada and get F 1 stamping.

 

I would like to know which option would be convenient,safe and faster.

Can any one of the gurus suggest to my concerned questions?

I am really stressed and I need to decide asap whether I need to go to India (Home country) or to Canada for F1-visa stamping.

1) Change of status in US takes approximately 4 to 6 months. It is very slow.

 

2) Going to India or Canada for visa stamping is the fastest way of changing status.

 

If you have all the documents supporting your change of status going for stamping is the easiest thing. Make sure you have financial proof.

I will be doing Masters in Public Health from Drexel University.

 

1. Should I go to Canada or India for F-1 stamping? Which will be more safe ?

 

2. And I will be coming to F-1, will that in any terms affect my husband's H1-B extension or GC process in future? My husbands company has not yet started the GC process and he is in his first H1 which will expire next year.

Your F-1 will not affect your husband's H-1 in any way.

Canada should be fine as long as the H1 status of your spouse is beyond reproach. DREXEL is A OK.
